Lover, writer, and photographer.
Sui is pronounced sway.
I have a lot of names, but you can call me whatever you like.
I’m a love soldier.
I believe in life.

Cynosure is the one word I defined “incorrectly” (according to my English teacher) on a vocabulary quiz in 11th grade. The “correct” definition my teacher accepted was “something that provides guidance”. The definition I had written was Polaris, the north star.
I don’t remember where I got that definition, but the Free Dictionary defines cynosure as:
1. An object that serves as a focal point of attention and admiration.
2. Something that serves to guide.
I must have gotten something right, though, because the etymology is:
French, Ursa Minor (which contains the guiding star Polaris), from Latin cynosura, from Greek kunosoura, dog’s tail
At least I would have answered that question correctly in France or Rome or Greece.
Speaking of which, one of my childhood dreams was to learn Latin, and I am currently doing so. One point to the childhood dreams (team?)! And another of my childhood dreams is also coming true. I say “coming true”, but really, I’m the one who fulfills them.
The only person who makes your dreams come true is yourself.
Which brings me to the purpose of this journal. cynosure aims to fulfill all three dictionary definitions. Other than an ongoing pursuit of self-expression– writing and photography– cynosure is for love.
Specifically:
- Loving yourself, first and foremost.
(Do not proceed to steps 2 and 3 without step 1, please.) - Loving each other.
- Loving our planet.
All, unconditionally.
I believe that these, plus a few other tenets (not thinking or worrying, and living mindfully in the present, among others), equal happiness.
The kind of happiness that is ultimately untouched by things like negative messages from the media, traumatic childhoods, a lack of funds or “stuff”, haunting memories, a stranger’s insults, rejection from a lover or family member, or even complete tragedies. (Because in the end, even when things are not going well at all, everything is still somehow beautiful.)
The kind of happiness for everyone. For you and me. (And for me and you and everyone we know, too.)
I hope that I positively affect the lovely you who is reading, in any way possible, and encourage you to do the same to others you meet. It’s a lot like paying it forward.
If we can just impact one person’s life, we have already changed the world.
Thank you, always, for reading.

let’s be friends.
Please feel free to email me. Introduce yourself. I would love to know you.
