…and resolutions for 2010

(loosely continued from… reflections on 2009)

  • talk to (befriend) as many strangers as you can every day
  • say yes to everything for an entire day
  • AIDS walk (reach: run a half-marathon, or at least complete a marathon)
  • do at least one Undie Run (there are three per year, get at it!)
  • ongoing yearlong commitments and projects
    • finish at least one book per week (or 4-5 per month)

      • finish the unread pile at home (BEFORE you buy any more books)!
      • finish Les Miserables
    • Project 365
    • 52 Photowalks
    • 100 Strangers (ongoing)
  • employ yourself (aka become self-employed)
  • get a job (contradictory, but both would be great)
  • get a professional internship (preferably paid)
  • start taking selling all your unneeded stuff seriously (instead of talking about it but never doing it and procrastinating!)
  • floss and wear sunscreen
  • stop peeling your lips
  • love everyone more. be COMPLETELY free of judgments of anyone and anything.
  • take other people’s opinions about you, negative AND positive, with a grain of salt. STOP TAKING THINGS PERSONALLY. compliment or criticism or insult, it doesn’t matter. true confidence is knowing that you’re not the best nor the worst, you’re just YOURSELF.
  • stop only accepting perfection in yourself, and realize you don’t ALWAYS have to try to be perfectly self-sufficient and never depend on anyone or anything else, ever– aka, work on your pride. work towards obliterating your ego.
  • realize you CAN’T be perfect, so instead of trying to be, strive to be better, always be yourself. be and do YOUR best.
  • be more humble.
  • be fearless. let go of all your fears.
  • be FIT. walk, hike, climb, run
    • run 365 miles this year

This year I’m actually going to keep track of what I do this year– not only progress on my resolutions but more fun stuff like movies and series I watch. Even though I like graphs and fancy representations like that, I’m using my preferred no-frills Notepad to just type random lists.

I’m going to write a separate post for each (or groups) of these resolutions and why I want to change, and on my progress throughout this year (for Accomplishing the Mission: 2010).

To be alive is the biggest fear humans have. Death is not the biggest fear we have; our biggest fear is taking the risk to be alive– the risk to be alive and express what we really are. Just being ourself is the biggest fear of humans. We have learned to live our life trying to satisfy other people’s demands. We have learned to live by other people’s points of view because of the fear of not being accepted and of not being good enough for someone else.

The Four Agreements, don Miguel Ruiz

In this year, in this life, I challenge you to be alive.

What are your resolutions…
and WHY did you choose them?
What about yourself
do you want to change?

It’s already been a few days since new year’s day, so are you still working towards your personal view of an ideal life in this year?

Naming (and reminding yourself of) reasons can help you stick to whatever you want to do :)

love your resolutions. unfortunately mine are always changing. i find it easier sometimes to just make a grand ‘ol list of what i’d like to accomplish this year… then i look back on it and see how far i got.

This was extremely inspirational for me (and the reason why I automatically added you to my blog roll). There are so many crazy things that happened in my life from 2008 – 2009 and I finally feel like I’m getting a handle on them in 2010, or at least trying. I want to make a list much like yours and just keep it somewhere and reflect on the kind of person I want to be(come) in the next year and beyond. Thank you soo much for posting this.
